Dental X-rays

Dental X-rays are images that a dentist takes of your teeth to evaluate your dental health. These images are captured with low levels of radiation and show the interior of your teeth and gums. X-rays are very helpful for detecting cavities, impacted teeth, or areas of tooth decay. There are various types of X-rays that we may use. A dental hygienist will walk you through the steps of getting your images taken. The different types of dental X-rays include:

  • Bitewing. You will bite down on a piece of paper so your dentist can see how the crowns of your teeth align. This is great for identifying cavities between teeth.
  • Occlusal. This type of X-ray is taken with the jaw closed and your teeth biting together. It helps measure how the upper and lower jaws align.
  • Panoramic. A machine rotates around your head while you remain still in the middle of it. This captures a wide panoramic image of your teeth and is helpful for identifying impacted teeth or jaw problems.
  • Periapical. This captures an image of one specific tooth, including the chewing surface and root below the gum line. These images help detect root problems or issues within your jaw bone structure.

3D Scanning

Some treatments require digital impressions so that oral appliances can be created in a laboratory. If you are receiving Invisalign retainers, we will use a special handheld scanner to take 3D images of your teeth. These images are used to create your custom retainers for a perfect fit. Dental implant crowns and the final prostheses for full-arch restoration are also made in a lab, which we often use 3D imaging technology to help create.

With 3D scanning, the images are captured and viewed in real time. We can send them to a lab immediately and quickly share them with other members of your care team.

Intraoral Cameras

An intraoral camera is a small, pen-like device with a camera on the end. The camera contains a bright LED which helps us diagnose cavities or fractures that are difficult to see with the naked eye. The camera is connected to a monitor which allows you to see up close what Alex Harris, DDS is seeing.

OralDNA

At Vero Dental, we use OralDNA to identify the specific bacteria causing gum disease so we can treat the real source of the problem and tailor your treatment to it. This helps us stop gum disease in its tracks before it can lead to worse issues like periodontitis and tooth loss.

Dental Laser

Laser dental care is among dentistry’s most recent and beneficial breakthroughs. At Vero Dental, we use laser dentistry for treatments like gum recontouring. Alex Harris, DDS uses the laser to trim away and reshape excess gum tissue to make it look neater and in proportion to the teeth, a great option for a patient with a “gummy” smile due to gum overgrowth.
