Accidents happen, and a knocked-out tooth is a true dental emergency. Acting quickly can improve the chances of saving it. At Vero Dental, we want you to know the best steps to take if this happens.

1. Stay Calm and Act Fast

Try to stay calm. Time is critical—ideally, you should aim to see a dentist within 30 minutes to save the tooth.

2. Handle the Tooth Carefully

Locate the tooth and hold it by the crown (the top part). Avoid touching the root, as this part is fragile. If the tooth is dirty, gently rinse it with milk or saline, not tap water.

3. Try to Reinsert the Tooth

If possible, carefully place the tooth back in its socket and bite down gently on gauze to keep it in place. Don't worry if you can’t, just keep it moist (see the next step).

4. Keep the Tooth Moist

If you can’t reinsert the tooth, keep it moist until you reach Vero Dental. Place it in milk, between your cheek and gums, or use a tooth preservation kit if available.

5. See a Dentist Immediately

Head to Vero Dental for emergency dentistry right away. Quick professional care is essential for the best chance of saving the tooth.

Preventing Future Tooth Loss

To reduce the risk of a knocked-out tooth, wear a mouthguard during sports, avoid using your teeth as tools, and be cautious of tripping hazards.

Knowing these simple steps can make all the difference in saving your tooth. If you have questions about dental emergencies, feel free to contact Vero Dental. We’re here to help keep your smile safe!
